About the Campaign
Health Foundation Launches Campaign to Address Childhood Obesity
The number of overweight children is growing at an alarming rate, leading to a generation that will be at increased risk for type 2 diabetes, stroke and heart disease. The MetroWest Community Health Care Foundation considers the public education campaign addressing childhood obesity as one of our most important initiatives ever.
The goal of the campaign is to educate children and families in MetroWest about the health risks associated with obesity, encourage them to consult with professional health care providers and promote healthy food choices and physical activity. The campaign will include local billboards, print advertising in area newspapers, television spots and public relations, with other special components focused on groups such as area pediatricians.
The Foundation is also providing grants to area schools and youth serving agencies to support health screening services, nutrition and physical education programs, parent education on nutrition and on active alternatives to "screen time."
